Desk Support Center Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Your Desk instance comes with a public (or optionally private) Desk-hosted support center website. Within Desk Admin, you can manage content (brands, topics, articles) and even modify your support center template theme code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Within your template theme code, you can define / adjust HTML headings, page title, and meta tags to improve your support center search engine optimization (SEO). In this article, we'll show you how!


Getting Started

To begin editing your support center template theme, login to Desk Admin and then navigate to Channels > Support Center >Web Themes. Find your default theme, and click its title to open the Basic Theme Editor. Towards the top, click the Advanced Themes tab to enter the Advanced Theme Editor.



Within the Advanced Theme Editor, you can click into different pages of your support center (e.g. Index page) to modify or add headings (h1, h2, h3, h4, h5). When writing articles in Desk Admin>Content, be sure to use appropriate headings within your article bodies.

Page Titles

You'll find the title tag at the top of the Header section in the Advanced Theme Editor. There is a large, default IF statement that dynamically sets the page title based on the current page the user is viewing. Here, you can directly modify the liquid logic and HTML code.

Meta Descriptions

By default, Desk support centers don't declare a meta description. To do this, add the following to your Header:

You can freely modify this code to fine-tune your descriptions. For example, what if you want meta descriptions to be the first 250 characters of the first paragraph (<p> tag) of the article, here's the code you'd use:


While you aren't able to modify the URL structure of your support center, you can set up a custom domain name (CNAME), such as using this guide.
