Embedding Google Docs into your Support Center Articles

Last Updated -

Please note - You will need to make sure that you have Scripting whitelisted on your Desk.com Account for Articles, otherwise embedding this code will be blocked. Please email our support team if you need Scripting enabled or if you are unsure of whether or not you already have it enabled.

Open the Google Document you wish to embed into your Support Center Article.

Go into File → Page Setup → Margins → Top and set that to Zero (0) and then set Left to Zero (0) as well. This ensures that the Margins on this document aren’t going to be reflected in your Support Center.

Hit the Share button on your Document and ensure that your sharing options are set to “Anyone (no sign-in required)” which allows this to be shared anywhere on the web.

Now you can go into File → Publish on the web → Embed and then Copy the Code. Make sure that “Automatically republish when changes are made” is checked, so that any future updates to this document don’t need to be republished with a new Embed Code.

Take the embed code you just copied and create a new Desk.com Article or open an existing one.

Go into Source Mode on the Article and then paste the Embed code. Now you can go to that page on your Support Center and see that Google Doc being pulled in.

There are some caveats to this, that need to be fixed before it will look perfect. You need to add a width to match the width of your Desk.com Article area by adding width=“675” to the embed code. Alter the number to suit your needs.

You will also need to alter the height as well. This is trickier as it need to match the article length. You do this using height=“800” in your embed code. Alter the number to suit your needs. Click Save to view your published Article. It should now look like a normal Desk.com Article, but the contents are all being pulled from your Google Doc.
